The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has marked three places for shifting of the solid waste management and recycling plant from Sheeshambada. The corporation will soon start work of shifting the waste management plant to two of these marked places after completing all the required procedures. The Dehradun municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal said this to district magistrate Sonika in a meeting held on Friday to discuss and review the progress on the work being done to shift the plant from Sheeshambada as per the directions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
The meeting was chaired by the DM in the presence of Sahaspur MLA Sahdev Pundir and members of Pachwadoon Samiti as representatives of Sheeshambada area residents along with the officials concerned from MCD, Forest department and district administration. The municipal commissioner informed that MCD will soon start working on shifting the plant after completing required procedures including getting permissions of the departments concerned. The DM directed the officials to complete all the processes soon to start the work. Sahaspur MLA also asked the officials to speed up the work process to get rid of the accumulated garbage to ensure locals get relief soon.
The members of Pachwadoon Samiti also expressed their disappointment at the slow progress of shifting work of the plant in the meeting. They said that the CM had issued the order to shift the plant last year in May and the board of MCD has also passed the proposal of shifting the plant from Sheeshambada but despite that, MCD failed to take concrete steps to speed up the work. According to them, there is a large pile of garbage accumulated in the plant which can also lead to a major accident in the area. They said that the patience of locals is wearing thin and they expect the administration to speed up the work process without any further delay.
