The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is all set to use drones in its anti-dengue campaign to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes, especially dengue causing mosquitoes. As per the officials, the corporation is regularly fumigating all the wards besides spraying larvicide at various locations for the past few months to minimise the potential risk of dengue disease in Dehradun. According to the municipal commissioner, Vinay Shankar Pandey, the corporation is taking all possible measures to restrict the potential risk of dengue in the city while spreading awareness among locals about the same.
He informed that though all possible measures are being taken by the MCD, there are some areas in the city that are favourable for mosquito breeding like the slums near the Rispana and Bindal rivers. “It has been observed that in these slums, people keep things like old tyres, buckets and other items filled with water in open which are ideal for mosquito breeding. In view of this, the corporation has decided to use drones to spray larvicide to destroy the larvae of mosquitoes in such areas,” stated Pandey.
He further said that the corporation recently did its first trial near Bindal river which was successful. As per Pandey, the corporation would now use drones to spray larvicide to restrict mosquito breeding in such slum areas. He also appealed to locals to take all possible measures to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes in their homes and neighbourhood in order to have a dengue-free year like the last year.
