MCD will continue to take action against illegal displays: ‘Gama’

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is not targeting a certain political party or organisation, it will take action against illegal displays of posters and hoardings to keep the city clean as per the rules irrespective of the political party involved.

The Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said this while responding to the recent accusation that the corporation recently targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for installing hoardings and posters in various public places without MCD’s permission. The party members have alleged that ‘Gama’ from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) used his power as the mayor of Dehradun and filed a complaint against those who installed the posters. According to them, there are several posters and hoardings of BJP installed in public areas but no action has been taken by the corporation so far.

However, the mayor has rejected all such allegations and stated that the MCD team has been removing all such posters and hoardings which have been installed without the permission of the corporation. He said that the corporation had also run an anti-defacement campaign earlier this year to raise awareness among people that such illegal displays are punishable offence under the Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act, (PDPP), 2003. The MCD had appealed to take permission before installing any posters and remove all the displays after a certain event is finished but despite this, the illegal displays are being installed across the city, informed the mayor.

“The corporation did not just take down AAP’s posters but posters of other parties like Congress and BJP were also removed in Rajpur area. This will continue in future too. The corporation is working to make the city clean and I also appeal to everyone to install hoardings and posters only after the approval of MCD,” said ‘Gama’.
