A month-long wall painting competition organised by Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to increase public participation in Swachchh Survekshan 2023 concluded on Monday. The corporation received nominations from 36 groups who showcased their paintings on various walls of the city in the past one month.
The theme of the competition was ‘Love for the City Dehradun’ on which artists were asked to depict the culture, heritage and landscape of Dehradun through their art. The mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ awarded the first three winners of the competition with the cash prize of Rs Rs 40,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. Besides this, seven participants were also given a cash prize of Rs 5,000. The mayor said that the painting depicts the glorious heritage, culture, beauty and nature of Uttarakhand.
This competition was conducted to promote public participation in SS 23 as per the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) as getting into top 50 cleanest cities is not possible without active participation of locals, said ‘Gama’. He said that the waste management facilities are also being improved in the city and such initiatives will certainly help the city to attain a better ranking in SS 23 this year too.
