The tax section of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will remain open on Monday, despite the Eid holiday, as it marks the final day of the 2024-25 financial year. This decision follows the MCD’s efforts to maximise property tax collection before the financial year ends. In line with this, the tax section was also operational on Sunday to facilitate payments from the public.
According to Dehradun municipal tax superintendent Dharmesh Painuly, the corporation collected over Rs 50 lakh on Sunday. He informed that so far, the MCD has gathered over Rs 55 crore in property tax revenue against its target of Rs 70 crore for the financial year. The tax section officials are actively working to recover outstanding dues from major defaulters, some of whom have accumulated substantial arrears over the years, he stated.
According to him, with many property owners traditionally making their payments on the final day, a significant amount is expected to be collected on Monday. The corporation anticipates crossing at least the Rs 60 crore mark for the 2024-25 financial year as it pushes to meet its revenue target.
