The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar (MCH) has formed teams for the removal of beggars and encroachments near the Ghats ahead of the Char Dham Yatra which is scheduled to commence on April 22. The corporation has taken this initiative to maintain sanitation conditions in all ghats and to ensure pilgrims do not have to face any kind of inconvenience during their visits to the city.
The municipal commissioner Dayanand Saraswati said that he has formed three teams to remove all kinds of encroachments including all shops set up near the Ghats. He said that the teams have already started removing encroachments and beggars from all prominent ghats in Haridwar. The teams are carrying out work during the day as well as at night to ensure people do not encroach on the space again.
Such initiatives are also expected to help the city in getting points during the field inspection of Swachchh Survekshan 2023 conducted by a team of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under its Swachchh Bharat Mission-Urban.
