MCH to install CCTV cameras to monitor illegal dumping of garbage

Tuesday, 13 December 2022 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Municipal Corporation of Haldwani (MCH) would soon install CCTV cameras across the city to monitor the practice of illegal dumping of garbage as an initiative to improve sanitation facilities to get better ranking in Swachchh Survekshan (SS) 2023. These cameras would also help police in monitoring traffic and criminal activities.

This was stated by Haldwani mayor Jogendra Pal Singh Rautela on Monday. He also handed over a cheque of Rs 40 lakh to additional superintendent of police of Haldwani, Harbans Singh who would ensure the installation of the CCTV cameras in the city. He said that the corporation is taking several initiatives to improve the ranking of Haldwani in SS23 including segregation of garbage before collecting it through door to door garbage collection service. He said that dumping garbage in drains, roads, canals and empty plots among other places besides burning the trash is a major issue and the corporation is working to tackle it. He appealed to the locals to dispose of their garbage only in the garbage collection vehicles deployed by the corporation. He also appealed to use bags made of jute or fabric rather than single-use plastics. He said that appropriate action will be taken against those violating the ban on the usage of single-use plastic items. He said that all these factors would help the corporation to achieve a better ranking in SS23 as MCH has been consistently getting poor rankings in Swachchh Survekshan.

It is pertinent to mention here that Haldwani got 281st position in SS21 and 282nd position in SS22 which were among the poorest ranking not just in the State but across the country. The Haldwani municipal commissioner Pankaj Upadhyay said that installation of cameras would help the corporation to monitor the areas where roadside dumping is a big issue besides helping police in monitoring traffic and criminal activities. Locals can also call at 8882610000 to register a complaint regarding sanitation facilities across the city, added the commissioner.
