With the cumulative number of dengue cases at 212 in Pauri district, the Municipal Corporation of Kotdwar (MCK) has made preparations to tackle increasing cases of dengue in the city. The corporation has deployed over 90 sanitation workers to carry out works of fogging and spraying of larvicide in all wards as a preventive measure against dengue, said the additional municipal commissioner of MCK Azhar Ali. He said that the corporation had only three machines earlier for fogging but now it had got five more besides getting 40 machines to spray larvicide to assist the sanitation teams in source reduction. “A total of 80 workers are currently involved in spraying of larvicide and 12 workers carry out fogging in vulnerable areas of the town. Besides this, a control room centre is also being operated as per the direction of the district magistrate where we also get complaints regarding fogging and other associated issues,” said Ali. On the question of whether the corporation will impose penalties on those that do not participate in dengue prevention activities, he said that so far, the sanitation teams are only focussing on raising awareness and source reduction. However, he added that the teams have started conducting inspections of under construction sites and non-residential establishments. “If teams find that the place is acting as a breeding ground for mosquitoes, action will be taken against them accordingly,” he said.
