The Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh (MCR) has taken steps to support the needy as the winter temperatures drop by operating two Rain Baseras at the ISBT area in Rishikesh. Each shelter has 10 beds and has facilities including mattresses, heaters, electricity, water and toilets, all free of cost, the Rishikesh municipal commissioner Shailendra Negi said. He stated that 12 rooms in the passenger waiting area at the ISBT have also been designated as night shelters for those in need. These rooms have been adequately furnished with beds, heaters and other necessities to provide relief to people struggling in the harsh winter conditions. Besides this, the corporation has also appointed two caretakers and one in-charge staff member in Rain Baseras to ensure smooth functioning and management of these facilities. Negi further informed that MCR has also been lighting bonfires across the city to offer warmth to the homeless and preparations are underway to distribute blankets to the underprivileged in the city. He also urged local residents and travellers to spread awareness about these facilities and assist those in need by guiding them to the shelters. He said that for any information or assistance regarding the shelters, people can contact sanitation inspector Abhishek Malhotra at 7060467137.
