The Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh (MCR) will launch Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) centres as part of the Swachchh Bharat Mission. The corporation will soon start collecting old clothes, books, stationery, electronic items and medicines from different wards in Rishikesh once a week which will be distributed to those in need. The corporation held a workshop on Tuesday to kickstart and prepare for this initiative at the Golden Jubilee Auditorium in the MCR premises. It was inaugurated by the Padma Shri awardee and founder of Maiti movement Kalyan Singh Rawat. The event was also attended by the nodal officers of RRR centres in the municipal bodies of Dehradun and Muni Ki Reti along with associated NGOs and agencies. The Rishikesh municipal commissioner Shailendra Singh Negi said on the occasion that the MCR will start collection of old clothes, books, stationery, electronic items and medicines from different wards in Rishikesh once a week with the help of a women self help group Triveni Sena. They will handle the collection and distribution of these materials in each ward and the unusable items will be sent to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) centre to be processed according to the RRR concept, he said. Besides this, a tree plantation programme was also held later in which the Maiti founder and other participants planted saplings to mark the occasion. Negi said that this initiative emphasises on the commitment of the MCR and associated organisations to promote sustainability and support the local community through responsible waste management and resource utilisation.
