MDDA buys new JCB in 15 years, eliminates need for rentals

The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has purchased its own JCB for Rs 37 lakh, marking the end of years of dependence on rented machinery for demolishing unauthorised structures and clearing illegal land encroachments. The MDDA vice chairman Banshidhar Tiwari inaugurated the machine on Friday.

The officials said that over the years, MDDA has carried out significant operations, tackling illegal plotting and encroachments across more than 5,000 bighas. However, the lack of an in-house JCB had forced the authority to rely on rented equipment, incurring heavy rental costs. Tiwari recently issued directions to the MDDA to acquire its own machinery to ensure the efficient execution of demolitions and clearing tasks. Tiwari said during the inauguration that this acquisition is the first in 15 years for MDDA, which initially had a JCB at the time of Uttarakhand formation.

However, after years of service, the original JCB became unfit for use, leaving MDDA to rely on rented machinery ever since. With the arrival of this new JCB, MDDA anticipates greater operational efficiency and reduced costs, strengthening its capacity to take decisive action against unauthorised developments. He also instructed engineering teams to systematically assess and address such illegal activities across various sectors.
