The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) will finish the ongoing beautification work on the stretch from Natraj Chowk to Triveni Ghat via Kotwali in view of the G20 event scheduled to be organised in Rishikesh from June 26 to 28. Various works under this beautification drive are planned to be carried out on the stretch which is being done as scheduled, said the MDDA secretary MS Barnia. He said that the work includes façade improvement, plantation on dividers, wall paintings and vertical gardening among others.

Giving more information about the beautification work, the chief horticulture officer of MDDA, AR Joshi said that the authority will also repair and beautify the area in Triveni Ghat where Ganga Arti is done along with the area in front of it. “We will beautify the front area so that the devotees can have a nice serene view when they arrive to participate in the Arti.

There are also some portions of the Ghat which are quite significant from a religious point of view and we are working to enhance them too,” added Joshi. He said that they will also install big eco-friendly vases for plantation in the area.

On the question of who will take care of these beautification works once they are completed as most of them tend to deteriorate if not maintained properly, Joshi said that MDDA will ensure that all works are maintained properly after completion. He said, “MDDA will look after the maintenance of the beautification works for a year after which, the responsibility will be handed over to bodies and officials concerned as per the rules.” He said that all works are being done as scheduled and will be finished in the stipulated time before the commencement of the G20 event.
