In Dehradun latest news, by way of executing the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s water conservation campaign, Mussoorie- Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has started looking for old wells located in the district. The vice-chairman of the authority has already written to the commissioner of Dehradun Municipal Corporation and all the SDMs, asking them to prepare a list of all these old wells. The intention behind this move is to revive these wells, conserve these and enable the people living around these to have pure drinking water.
Even a few decades ago, the urban and rural areas of Dehradun had such wells which the people living around them would use to meet their drinking water requirements. But with time, the town expanded and with it, the use of these wells diminished. An MDDA officer said that not just Dehradun but some areas of Mussoorie like Clouds End have such wells. “In the past, the people would use these to the full to collect drinking water, but now these are hardly used,” he said.
Speaking of this move, the MDDA vice-chairman Banshidhar Tiwari said that this is a well-timed move in tune with the CM’s campaign for water conservation. “We will first ascertain the actual number of such wells spread over the district and MDDA will bear the expenses the conservation of these wells will incur,” he added.
