Medical officer caught taking Rs 20K bribe

A medical officer posted at the Civil Hospital in Roorkee was caught taking a bribe by the Vigilance Establishment team late on Saturday evening. The accused has been identified as Dr Abhas Singh.

According to the Vigilance officials, Singh is accused of demanding Rs 30,000 from a person injured in an assault case in the name of preparing a supplementary legal report. The victim informed the Dehradun Vigilance team about the demand. As per the plan the Vigilance team reached Roorkee Civil Hospital along with the complainant. The complainant called the doctor near the blood bank to hand over the money.

Singh was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 20,000 as a bribe at his official residence. The doctor was arrested on the spot and the entire bribe money was recovered. Officials said that further investigation is underway, adding that strict legal action will be taken against corruption.
