The first Jaunsar film, Maerey Gaon Ki Baat, has been witnessing a house-full run for five consecutive weeks at Centrio Mall in Dehradun. In light of this achievement, Padma Shri recipient Basanti Bisht honoured the film’s actor, Abhinav Chauhan. She said that this is the first time in the history of regional cinema that a film has remained house-full for such an extended period.

Bisht emphasised that this film, which is based on the social beliefs of Jaunsar Bawar, represents not just a cinematic experience, but a renaissance of folk culture. She praised the depiction of the natural beauty of Jaunsar Bawar, as well as its dialect, customs, traditions and the respect for women portrayed in the film, calling it a commendable effort. She expressed her emotional reaction to the film, stating that it moved her deeply.

Bisht advocated for the production of such films to keep folk culture alive, appreciating the contributions of the film’s concept artist, K S Chauhan and its director, Anuj Joshi. She also praised the performances of the actors and the work of the lyricists and musicians involved.

Notably, the entire film was shot in the Jaunsar Bawar region, with most of the cast being newcomers who hail from the same area. The film was presented in the Jaunsari dialect to help preserve the regional language and culture. Maerey Gaon Ki Baat continues to run house-full in Dehradun and Vikasnagar even in its fifth week and has also been released in Haridwar, Mussoorie and Himachal.
