Predicting heavy rainfall in many parts of the State in the next three days, the meteorological department has said that the conditions are favourable for the advance of the South West monsoon in the State. The monsoon may officially arrive in the State in the next two- three days.
Many parts of the State, including provisional State capital Dehradun, witnessed good pre- monsoon showers on Wednesday. The weathermen have issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in some districts of Uttarakhand from June 27 to 29 and then from July 2 and 3.
The department has also said that thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, very intense to extremely intense spells and gusty winds (30 to 40 KMPH) are likely to occur at isolated places in the State in the next three days.
The heavy rains can induce medium landslides and rockfall at isolated places in vulnerable areas that can result in blocking/ washout of highways and link roads in the State.
The meteorology department has also advised state government authorities to take necessary precautionary measures especially along Chardham Yatra routes in the coming three to five days.
