MIB to conduct photo exhibition on 75 years of India’s Independence

Event to raise awareness even on lesser known freedom fighters

In order to showcase the struggle of freedom fighters from across the nation and Uttarakhand, the Central Bureau of Communications, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) will organise a five-day photo exhibition in Dehradun on the completion of 75 years of India’s Independence. The Additional Director General (ADG) of the  Press Information Bureau (PIB) Vijay Kumar said this while addressing a Press conference at the Press Club here on Wednesday. He said that this five-day exhibition will commence from August 18 at Pavilion Ground, Dehradun and will be inaugurated by the Uttarakhand governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh. He said that over 100 panels will be put up displaying the struggle of not just well known freedom fighters but those anonymous Indian freedom fighters who fought for the country’s independence but failed to get recognition like others. He said that the horror of partition and saga of freedom heroes of Uttarakhand will also be showcased in the exhibition. He said that Doordarshan has also started a series that shows the sacrifices of those who fought for the country but are not recognised widely. Besides this, shows talking about the history of Dutch, Portuguese and French colonialism are also being shown to commemorate the occasion of 75th annivessary of independence. He said that all these initiatives are being taken to make the young generation aware of the history of India’s independence and the struggle of several freedom fighters and unsung heroes to achieve it and appealed to them to participate in the event.  Besides this, stalls of 11 departments like health, agriculture and skill development will also be installed in the event to raise awareness among locals about the respective government schemes for the potential beneficiaries, informed Kumar.
