Miffed minister reprimands officers for State’s poor PGI ranking

In the PGI list of schools Uttarakhand is placed at 35th spot among 37 States & UTs

Taking a stern note of the dismal performance of the State in the Performance Grading Index (PGI) of schools, the Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat gave a severe dressing down to the officers of the Education department on Saturday. In the grading list released recently Uttarakhand was placed at 35th  position among 37 States and Union Territories (UTs) in the country.  In the list the neighbouring States Uttar Pradesh is placed at 20th position while Himachal Pradesh is at 11th rank. The report is based on 70 indicators of education.

 The minister took a review meeting of the School Education department of the State at the education directorate on Saturday. In the meeting a miffed minister reprimanded the officers for the poor position of the State in the PGI report of schools released by the government of India recently. In the meeting he sought an explanation from the officers holding charge of the UDISE portal and said that disciplinary action should be taken against the officers responsible for laxity in maintaining coordination with the districts. He warned that such laxity would not be tolerated in future. Rawat directed that all online systems should be kept up to the mark regarding PGI indicators so that every data including the attendance of the teachers and students is available online. He said that hundreds of posts lying vacant in the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) should be filled and a proposal for the regulations for DIETs should be prepared for putting it in the cabinet meeting. Rawat said that DIET is one of the important institutes and they should prepare them as per the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.  He said that separate regulations and cadre should be prepared for DIET.

The minister also expressed displeasure at the slow pace of the expenditure of the budget allotted to the department.

 In the meeting the secretary of school education Ravinath Raman, director general of school education Banshidhar Tiwari, additional secretary Yogendra Yadav, education director RK Kunwar and other officers were also present in the meeting.
