Migrant voters in remote Niti-Mana valley to cast vote in villages first time after State’s creation

The migrant voters of the border region Niti-Mana valley in Chamoli district will be voting in their native village in the Badrinath Vidhan Sabha by-election to be held on July 10. This is the first time they will be voting in their native villages since the creation of Uttarakhand. The district election officer and district magistrate Himanshu Khurana inspected the distant polling booths in the border region valley on Tuesday to check the arrangements for the bypoll.

According to officials, since the creation of Uttarakhand in 2000, the 3,838 migrant voters of the Niti-Mana valley will be casting their votes in their native villages for the first time. The voters are currently residing in their native villages and shift to lower altitudes during the winter. The authorities have set up polling booths in the villages including Malari, Kailashpur, Gamshali, Jelam, Kosha, Dronagiri, Jumma, Niti and Mana.

According to officials, there are 824 voters including 409 men and 415 women registered in the Mana polling booth, 220 voters including 119 men and 105 women in the Niti polling booth, 838 voters including 414 men and 424 women in Gamshali, 210 voters including 105 men and 105 women in Kailashpur and 394 voters including 206 men and 188 women in Jelam. Similarly, there are 243 voters including 134 men and 109 women in Kosha, 142 voters including 72 men and 70 women in Jumma, 368 voters including 191 men and 177 women in Dronagiri and 599 voters including 309 men and 290 women in Malari.
