With the goal of enhancing patient facilities, a milk bank will soon be established at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital. Providing the information about this, medical superintendent Dr Anurag Aggarwal said that efforts have long been underway to improve facilities at GDMC hospital by introducing an IVF centre and a milk bank on the premises. After careful consideration, the hospital administration has decided to move forward with this initiative and has submitted a proposal to the higher authorities. However, completion of the project may take time as certain formalities and construction work are still pending, he added.
He further added that only one room of the hospital is necessary to operate a milk bank. He also highlighted that this will be the first milk bank in a government hospital in the State. The main goal of establishing the milk bank at the hospital is to provide milk support to newborns whose mothers struggle with breastfeeding after delivery. He stressed that mothers who are able to breastfeed will donate their milk here to help other babies whose mothers are unable to do so. He emphasised that this process will be lengthy and require time for proper implementation.
Notably, GDMC principal Dr Geeta Jain had also made a presentation to the Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat on this subject.
