The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya directed the officials to formulate a comprehensive State women’s policy so that it could be announced on the occasion of the State foundation day on November 9. She said that this policy would be fairly comprehensive that includes pornography, deep fake and artificial intelligence. She said this while chairing a review meeting.
Arya reviewed the draft prepared of the ‘Uttarakhand State Women’s Policy’ and directed the officials to firm it up in a way that includes the crucial economic and social aspects of women empowerment. “Nothing that matters to women’s welfare should be left out. The draft must include keeping aside a percentage of the State budget for women, opening special centres for treating mentally ill women and making disabled women self-reliant. Besides, women’s security is paramount and they must be protected from crimes in workplaces, families and society,” she said.
Arya further laid stress on enhancing the status of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe women, working women as well as the homemakers in rural and urban areas.
She also called for special women-centric provision for vehicle services like Ola and Uber, rehabilitation and empowerment of sex workers and measures to prevent children under 18 years from accessing objectionable content on social media to prevent incidents like rape.
