In latest news from Dehradun, the State animal husbandry minister Saurabh Bahuguna felicitated the winners and participants of the selfie with pet competition organised by the animal husbandry department in the department’s directorate. Notably, the competition-meant to motivate people to love their pet animals- was held from July 7 to August 10 this year. The residents of Uttarakhand were requested to upload selfies taken with their pets along with relevant stories on any of the social media accounts of the department. After the entries were received, they were evaluated by a committee constituted the animal husbandry department. In all, 25 entries were received and the one posted by Dikshay Verma of Haldwani was adjudged the best while Kumari Meghna of Nainital secured the second place and Manohar Kanyal of Didihat, Pithoragarh secured the third place. Besides, all the 25 participants were honored with citations. Further, the minister felicitated Uttarkashi resident Kumari Khushi Nautiyal with a special award of Rs 11,000 for treating destitute animals with her own money. While speaking on the occasion, Bahuguna said that these voiceless animals deserve love and care. “We have sponsored this competition to further strengthen the feeling of love and affection towards pet and destitute animals among the people,” he added.
