Minister orders probe into bridge incident

The Public Works Department and Irrigation minister Satpal Maharaaz has ordered an inquiry into the collapse of a portion of the Ranipokhri bridge across the Jakhan river on Dehradun-Rishikesh highway.
He has directed the PWD engineer-in-chief Hariom Sharma to get the damage caused to the bridge investigated and also told the departmental officials to ensure monitoring of all bridges in the state. Alternative arrangements should also be made in places where required, he said.
The PWD minister also directed the director general of police to decrease traffic on bridges and divert the same. Considering heavy rains, Maharaaz also directed the Irrigation department chief engineer Mukesh Mohan to also keep a watch on all the hydro power projects in the state.
