The issue of alleged use of expletives for the people of mountainous areas of Uttarakhand by Parliamentary Affairs minister Prem Chand Agarwal rocked the house on fifth day of the budget session of Vidhan Sabha on Saturday.
Raising the issue at the start of the proceedings of the day the leader of opposition Yashpal Arya said that by his utterances the minister Agarwal has offended the sentiments of the people of the State. He said that the minister used unparliamentary language and is trying to create a divide among the people of the State on regional lines.
Other members of the Congress party supported the LoP in demanding an unconditional apology from the minister. Badrinath MLA Lakhpat Butola became so agitated that he tore the papers on his table when speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan reprimanded him and asked him to take his seat. The agitated MLA tried to leave the house stating that he didn’t want to remain part of the Assembly where foul language is used against people of mountainous areas.
The LoP Arya however prevented him from leaving the house. In her ruling, the speaker said that the minister has already expressed his regret on the incident. She said the members should not undermine the prestige of the house.
