Ministry requested to enable serving of U’khand’s cuisine on flights to State: Maharaj

The State’s Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj said that he had requested the Union Civil Aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to enable serving of snacks and meals from Uttarakhand on the 28 flights flying to Uttarakhand to encourage the State’s cuisine. The minister said that at an exhibition of 101 dishes made from local Bajra (pearl millet) by students of the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) here on Tuesday to mark World Food Day.
The minister said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare is observing 2023 as the international Bajra year to encourage regionally cultivated Bajra. The dishes prepared by the students on the occasion included sweet salad, salty salad, Upma, Pakodas, Idli, Paratha, Muthia, Kachori, Dosa, pancakes stuffed with coconut and jaggery, bread, sandwiches, dimsum, Dhokla, Kathi rolls, tacos, pasta, stuffed capsicum, stuffed tomatoes and a range of other dishes all with Bajra as a major ingredient. The minister appreciated the effort made by the IHM students and staff, adding that such exhibitions will go a long way in encouraging the traditional food items and recipes of the State. IHM principal Jagdeep Khanna, head of department Manish Semwal and others were also present on the occasion.
