Misinformation spread by BJP responsible for Congress’ poll defeat in U’khand- Pande

The Congress had gone for the Assembly elections in Uttarakhand with a good vision and promises but the Bharatiya Janata Party was able to misinform the people and win the elections. None of the party leaders had spoken about establishing a Muslim university nor was the issue mentioned in the party’s poll manifesto but the BJP was able to exploit this issue in a major way to the detriment of the Congress. The All India Congress Committee general secretary Avinash Pande said this while addressing the media after two days of review meetings he and the party’s State in-charge Devendra Yadav held with all the elected MLAs, candidates and senior leaders of the party to review the party’s performance in the recently concluded Assembly elections.

Addressing the media at the Congress Bhawan on Wednesday, Pande said that despite the good vision and manifesto of the Congress, the people had elected the BJP. He opined that the BJP was able to raise issues like the purported promise for establishing a Muslim university and spread misinformation which turned the public in its favour. Regarding the allegations leveled by the Congress’ state working president Ranjit Rawat against its election campaign committee state head and former chief minister Harish Rawat, the AICC general secretary said that a notice has been issued to Ranjit Rawat. Pande further said that he does not agree with the allegations leveled by Ranjit Rawat against Harish Rawat.

Regarding the two-day session of review meetings held in Dehradun, he said that detailed discussions were held with all senior party leaders along with the elected MLAs and party candidates from all districts to assess the reasons for the party’s performance in the Assembly elections. A detailed report will be prepared based on the feedback received from the party members and the same will be submitted to the party’s national president Sonia Gandhi.
