Mismanagement in ULB polls detrimental for democracy: Congress
PNS | DEHRADUN
The Congress has alleged that gross mismanagement in the elections of the urban local bodies in the State has weakened the faith of the people in the election process.
Interacting with the media persons at the headquarters of the State Congress on Friday, the chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress, Garima Dasauni said that the participation in the voting is the fundamental right of a citizen and faith of people in the election process should be of paramount importance.
Dasauni said that in Roorkee the voters were lathi charged mercilessly. She said that in Gopeshwar the names of the district level officers responsible for the election process were missing from the voter list. She said that many discrepancies were noticed in the voter list and in one case the name of a 10 year old child was found in the list. Dasauni said that it is an irony that those talking about one nation and one election, failed to conduct a small election of local bodies properly.
She added that it is unfortunate that two former chief ministers were not able to exercise their franchise and names of many prominent personalities such as Jagar singer Pritam Baratwan were missing in the voter list. Dasauni said that names of thousands of the voters who had exercised their franchise in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 were missing from the voter list of ULB elections.
