Teams of Champawat police have left for Shimla on Tuesday after tracing the location of sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Anil Chanyal who had been allegedly missing for three days. The police circle officer (CO) of Champawat VC Pant told The Pioneer that the SDM made contact with the Champawat district magistrate Narendra Singh Bhandari stating that he is in Shimla as he was not feeling well and purportedly wanted some changes in his surroundings. The CO said that the police traced the location of his cell phone to Shimla on Tuesday. “We have sent the teams which will reach Shimla by Wednesday morning. It would be too soon to comment on the reason for Chanyal’s alleged sudden disappearance. His safe return is currently our priority. The teams will try to be in contact with him once they reach Shimla and meet him. We would be able to shed light on the matter only after his return,” said the Champawat CO.
It is pertinent to mention here that Chanyal had asked his cook and driver not to come to their respective jobs anymore on Saturday besides leaving his official SIM card along with a note at his office asking the staff to return it to the district disaster management department, as per the officials. Nobody had seen him since then, after which, the police started its search operation on Monday. It is also being said that the SDM was tense for the past few days due to some personal issues but the officials did not comment on it.
