MKRPL management seeks renaming of Darshan Lal Chowk

The board of trustees of Mahatma Khushi Ram Public Library (MKRPL) has appealed Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ to rename Darshan Lal Chowk as Mahatma Khushi Ram Chowk or Shatabdi Pustakalay Chowk to mark 100 years of the library on October 4 this year.
The MKRPL is the oldest public library of Uttarakhand and the board members have decided to celebrate the centennial year of the library discreetly considering the uncertainties due to Covid-19 pandemic this year. The board members recently revised the plan of celebrating the centennial year from October 2 to October 4 due to Covid protocols.
Dehradun mayor who will be the part of the celebrations also visited MKRPL which has over 45,000 books. During his visit, the management of the library requested the mayor to erect a Shatabdi Dwar to mark 100 years of the library. Moreover, they also appealed to him to provide funds to refurnish the multipurpose community hall and rename Darshan Lal Chowk as Mahatma Khushi Ram Chowk or Shatabdi Pustakalay Chowk.
As informed by the president of the trust, VK Bansal, the mayor has assured the management to provide all the possible help to support the library.
