MLA pledges to recommend honorarium hike for ASHA workers

Rajr Road MLA and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Khajan Das said that he will recommend to the government an increase in the honorarium for Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers. He said this during a district-level ASHA conference organised under the National Health Mission (NHM) in Dehradun on Thursday.

More than 500 ASHA workers from the district participated in the conference. In accordance with the guidelines of the Central government, ASHA link workers who performed exceptionally well were honoured with cash awards during the event.

Speaking at the conference, Das appreciated the efforts of ASHA workers, stating that they form the foundation of the community health service system. He emphasised that a strong health service system cannot exist without ASHA workers.

The director general of Health, Dr Sunita Tamta highlighted the significant contributions of ASHA workers to improving maternal and child health within the State’s health system. She said that ASHA workers play a crucial role in raising awareness in the community and ensuring that beneficiaries receive the benefits of health schemes. Dr Tamta said that discussions would take place at the government level to enhance the incentives for ASHA workers.

Chief medical officer  Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma addressed the audience as well, stating that efforts are underway at the departmental level to ensure that ASHA workers can fulfill their duties even in challenging conditions. He assured attendees that if ASHA workers encounter any issues while performing their responsibilities, they are welcome to visit the office and reach out for assistance.
