Mock drill conducted at Auli chairlift

Personnel of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the chairlift operator at Auli conducted a mock drill on Tuesday. They replicated a scenario wherein tourists are stuck on the 800 metre long chairlift at the popular winter sports destination of Auli. The personnel ‘rescued’ four people stranded on a stationary chairlift and brought them down safely. It is pertinent to mention here that the mock drill comes a few days after a ropeway trolley at Surkanda Devi was stalled midway with nearly three dozen people. On July 10, the Tehri MLA Kishore Upadhyaya and others were stuck in the ropeway trolley while returning from the Surkanda Devi temple. The operation of that ropeway was suspended by the district administration pending a technical investigation. The incident had elicited questions about the safety procedures and technical aspects of such facilities. It is also worth mentioning here that Auli is world famous for its skiing slope and attracts a considerable number of visitors from across India and abroad especially during the winters for various snow sports and adventure activities.
