In latest news from Dehradun, as part of the National Disaster Management Authority’s direction for biyearly emergency mock drill at all the ropeway projects across the country, a joint mock drill exercise was conducted by the personnel of ITBP, NDRF, SDRF and local police besides the employees of health and fire departments at the Bhattafall ropeway in Mussoorie. This exercise began at around 10 am and continued for 45 minutes. As part of the mock drill exercise, a scenario was replicated wherein tourists got stranded in stationary cable cars on the way to Gun Hill and then they were taken to the top of the hill with the help of trolleys by the ‘rescue teams’. After the mock drill exercise was completed, the local administration claimed that the particular ropeway was glitch-free. Notably, tourists had got stranded in this ropeway twice-in 2015 and 2019- and they had been rescued by teams through difficult operations. In view of the recent ropeway mishap in Jharkhand, resulting in death and injuries of tourists, stress is being laid on ensuring fool-proof security for the rope way riders across the country.
