Modi wins from Varanashi, but margin substantially reduced

Although the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hit hat trick in Varanasi constituency through his third straight win but the reduced margin of his victory has left the BJP baffled and shocked at the same time. He defeated the Congress candidate Ajay Rai by a margin of 1,52,513-a figure that is far less than his victory margins of 2019 and 2014 Lok Sabha election.
While in the 2019 hustings, Modi had won the seat by a huge margin of 4,79,505 as he trounced his SP rival Shalini Yadav while Congress’ Ajay Rai was in the third position. In 2014, the margin of Modi’s victory was 3,71,784 votes when he beat AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal.
The reduced margin of the PM’s victory looks all the more miniscule as the saffron party was expecting a record margin victory for him.
