More bodies of Gaurikund landslide victims recovered, 18 persons remain missing

Rains continue to cause disruption, 201 roads blocked across State

The authorities have recovered two more bodies of victims of the August 3 landslide in Gaurikund. With five bodies having been recovered so far, 18 persons are still missing since the disaster with efforts continuing to trace them.  In the Kotdwar Tehsil of Pauri district, one person is missing after a home was damaged by landslide on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) at least 201 roads were reported to be blocked in different parts of the State on Thursday evening. In Rudraprayag district, the Rishikesh-Kedarnath national highway 107 and the Gaurikund-Kedarnath bridle path are open for movement though one State highway and 18 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the district. In Pauri district the Kotdwar-Dugadda national highway 119 was reported to be blocked at about a dozen sites while one national highway, four State highways, one main district road, one other district road and 33 rural motor roads were also reported to be blocked in the district. Similarly, in the Dehradun district the national highway 123 was blocked due to sliding while one national highway, one State highway, one main district road and 18 rural motor roads were also reported to be blocked in the district. The national highways to Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarkashi district were open for movement while two main district roads and seven rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the district. Two State highways, one main district road and 17 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Tehri district while in Udham Singh Nagar district a bridge on national highway 74 across Dhela river was reported to be damaged. The Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway 58 in Chamoli district was open for movement while one main district road, two other district roads and 26 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the district. Three rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Almora district while in Nainital two State highways, one other district road and 23 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked. One main district road and eight rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Bageshwar district while seven rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Champawat district. Three border roads and 11 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the Pithoragarh district.
