More people are expected to arrive in Dehradun for the Jhanda Mela this year compared to the last year due to the early conclusion of the board examination, the assistant manager of the Jhanda Mela committee Vijay Gulati said. The historic Jhanda Mela will commence on March 30. Providing information regarding the preparation for the fair, Gulati said that on Saturday the old flag mast will be brought down ritually. In the morning, volunteers will purify the new flag pole with butter, milk, ghee and Gangajal. In the evening, the pole will be erected in accordance with rituals, he said.

Commenting about the preparation for Jhanda Mela, he said that all arrangements for the fair have been completed. The committee has organised accommodations for the devotees and selected eight schools and one university for their accommodation. Additionally, food preparation commenced on March 22 for devotees arriving from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh for the event. It is anticipated that there will be a greater number of attendees this year due to the early conclusion of board examinations, he said.

He said that Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital has also established a temporary Mela hospital on the premises of Darbar Sahib to cater to the health and medical requirements of the visitors. A dedicated team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other medical staff is present at the fair venue to offer health services to visitors from India and abroad. About 120 shops offering various items have been set up at the site, stretching from the entry gate to the exit gate of Darbar Sahib at Hanuman Chowk. Additionally, safety measures have been implemented for raising the sacred flag pole. Further, 500 volunteers have been designated to serve the public and oversee the Mela, he said.
