For the safety of both hospital staff and patients, the administration of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital has raised the number of security guards at the emergency ward. This step was taken following a recent incident in which two men who had visited the emergency ward as patients, brandished a fake firearm at a doctor. As a result of this incident, many post graduate doctors at the hospital went on strike on Monday, calling for enhanced security measures within the hospital premises, particularly in the emergency ward.
The medical superintendent at GDMC hospital Dr Anurag Aggarwal emphasised that the doctors and patients need not worry about their security at the hospital. He said that a recent incident occurred due to a delay in the arrival of security guards at the emergency ward, which caused distress among the doctors and patients. In response to this and considering past incidents related to safety, the hospital administration has increased the number of security guards on duty at the emergency ward from four to six. Further, Aggarwal stated that they have instructed the security guards to remain vigilant at all times to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the hospital.
Aggarwal further informed that the hospital administration also plans to recruit young security guards for the emergency ward. The existing security guards, who are older in age, will be relocated to the college where there are fewer possibilities of threat. He said that to enhance hospital security, a security meeting is held once a week to provide guidance and train security guards with advanced security measures regularly.
