More than 7 lakh visit Gangotri & Yamunotri in one month, Char Dham pilgrim numbers near 20 lakh

Even as the number of Char Dham pilgrims has continued to rise steadily with it crossing 19 lakh, a new record has been set in the pilgrimage to Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarkashi. According to officials, a total of more than seven lakh people have visited these two shrines within one month of them being reopened. Compared to the corresponding period last year, this figure is about 40 per cent higher.
As per official data 19,61,912 people had visited the Char Dham temples till Sunday evening since the reopening of Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri on May 10 and Badrinath on May 12. Out of these, 18,470 visited Kedarnath in Rudraprayag on Sunday with a total of 7,66,818 having visited the temple so far. In the Chamoli district, 16,709 pilgrims visited Badrinath on Sunday with a total of 4,88,774 having visited it so far. Similarly, in the Uttarkashi district, 9,760 people visited Yamunotri on Sunday with the total number of pilgrims so far being 3,56,305. The Gangotri temple was visited by 10,123 pilgrims on Sunday with the total number of visitors so far being 3,50,015.
Considering the high number of pilgrims visiting Yamunotri and Gangotri, the district administration is laying special focus on properly maintaining all necessary facilities. Since the reopening of Gangotri and Yamunotri on May 10, a total of 7,06,320 people have visited these two shrines. The number of pilgrims during the corresponding period last year was 5,05,242 compared to which the number is 39.80 per cent more this year. Officials stated that a record number of pilgrims have been visiting these shrines since the first day of the Yatra. The number of pilgrims who have visited Yamunotri so far is 48.51 per cent higher than the number of pilgrims during the corresponding period last year. Similarly, the number of pilgrims who have visited Gangotri so far is 31.92 per cent higher than the number of pilgrims during the corresponding period last year.
