Mother allegedly drowns seven-month-old daughter in water tank in Dehradun

With the reporting of heinous crimes being committed by women rising in frequency, the latest case has come to light in Dehradun district. A woman (22) allegedly drowned her seven-month-old daughter in a water tank in Vikasnagar area of Dehradun district. According to the officials, the family informed them that the child had been unwell for several days and the mother took her to both a doctor and a faith healer for treatment.

The faith healer reportedly gave her some charms and performed rituals. The officials said that the woman took her daughter to the rooftop water tank for another ritual on Tuesday morning during which the baby reportedly fell into the tank. Instead of raising an alarm, the woman allegedly left the scene and went about her household work. When family members later searched for the child, they found her in the water tank.

The father and his brother took the child to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead, as per the officials. They said that the father filed a complaint at Sahaspur police station, stating that his wife had taken their daughter to the faith healer and later drowned her in the water tank. Based on his statement, police registered a case and arrested the woman. She was presented before the court and sent to jail on Tuesday. The woman also has a two and a half years old son and was reportedly affected mentally due to her child’s illness. The police are investigating the case from all possible angles, the officials added.
