The Dehradun police on Friday arrested a married woman along with her paramour who killed her daughter Mamta (20) after she saw them in a compromised position. They strangled her with a dupatta and later hung her body to a ceiling fan to make the whole incident look like a suicide. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the police received information on Thursday that a young woman was found hanging from a noose tied to the ceiling fan at her home in Patelnagar. The police received information at the spot that the father of the deceased Sukhwinder Singh works as a milk supplier, who had left the house for milk supply work at 4 AM on the day of the incident as usual. The mother Harpreet claimed that she found the body of her daughter hanging from the fan which she brought down alone and then informed other family members. Singh said that the police prepared the Panchayatnama of the body and sent it to the mortuary for postmortem. However, the police started suspecting the suicide after interacting with the victim’s relatives and also the fact that the mother claimed she brought down the hung body from the ceiling alone. Considering this, the SSP directed the Patelnagar in-charge to thoroughly investigate that matter. It was revealed during the investigation that the mother had an affair with their neighbour Nitin and Mamta had told about the affair to her father earlier but he forgave her after she said she would not meet him again. However, Mamta saw her mother with Nitin in a compromising position about five days ago. Fearing that she will tell Sukhwinder again, they both decided to kill her. After the father left for work on Thursday, they both killed her, SSP said.
