Mother, daughter buried alive as landslides hit

In latest news from Uttarakhand, in a harrowing rain-triggered incident at Toli village in Tehri district, mother and daughter were buried alive as the house they were sleeping in was hit by a massive landslide. Other members of the family ran out in the nick of time to survive the nature’s onslaught. SDRF, police and revenue department teams rushed to the site and were trying to extricate the bodies from under the huge pile of debris.
Sharing details, the village head Ramesh said that landslide had hit the house of Virendra Lal at around 2.30 in the night, sending the walls to come crashing down. Virendra’s wife Sarita (36) and daughter Ankita (16) were buried alive under the debris.
This aside, the junior high school in Tingari village was completely damaged by spate of landslides. The footbridge connecting Bishan Village and Dala village was also washed away in the rain-triggered landslips.
