Accused went to buy milk as usual after strangling daughters

A 20-year old woman has been arrested for allegedly murdering her six-month twin daughters reportedly because their repeated crying left her disturbed and tired. The Haridwar police arrested the resident of Jwalapur area a few days after the twins were brought to a hospital where they were declared brought dead. According to the police, the district control room received information on March 6 that the twins had been brought dead to the district hospital. Tehri native Mahesh Saklani, currently living in Jwalapur area lodged a police case on March 7, suspecting that his daughters had been murdered.
The police properly searched the home of the complainant and questioned the neighbours and acquaintances. The police said that questioning the locals along with checking footage from nearby CCTV cameras revealed various aspects including that on the day of the incident, nobody had visited or left the Saklani residence between the times when the complainant’s wife Shivangi Saklani went out in the morning to get milk and when she returned home.
The complainant said that he was at work on March 6 when he received a phone call informing him that his twin daughters were unwell. He rushed home to learn that his wife had taken the twins to a hospital where they were declared dead. Shivangi told him that she had put the twins to sleep and gone to get milk at about 10:30 AM and found them unconscious when she returned a little while later. She then took them to the hospital with the help of the neighbours.
Considering what they had learnt, the police questioned Shivangi for several hours in the presence of a woman constable. According to the police, the woman said that the twins used to often cry day and night which left her with little time to rest. She said that she was young and had nobody with her, which increased her irritation. The police said that according to the accused, since she was unable to even sleep properly, so angered and frustrated by the situation she first smothered the twins with a blanket. They screamed more so she used a scarf to strangle them and after that she went to get milk as usual.
