A mother-son duo died on Wednesday morning after the car they were travelling in fell into an 800-metre gorge at Badethi village of Chinyalisaur in Uttarkashi district.
The officials said that the woman named Pawna Devi (48) was travelling along with her two sons-Bhupendra Singh (25) and Vikas Singh (23), who are army personnel, and were going to their village Indra in Chinyalisaur. They said that the son driving the car reportedly lost control due to which the car fell into the deep gorge. After the police got information about the accident, they called the rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to conduct a search operation.
It took considerable time for SDRF to search for victims and retrieve their bodies with the help of ropes from a nearly 800-metre-deep gorge. The rescue team had to cut the car as the bodies were trapped inside it. The officials said that the woman and the younger son had died on the spot but the older son sustained serious injuries and was immediately sent to the hospital for treatment.
