A memorandum of understanding was signed at chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat’s residence between the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) and National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) for science city in Dehradun. The science city in Dehradun will be developed at Vigyan Dham in Jhajhra. The project will take about four years to complete and out of the total project cost of Rs 173 crore, the Central government will pay Rs 88 crore while the state government will pay Rs 85 core.
The CM said that special efforts are needed to make the science city to be made in Dehradun a centre of attraction for all. Efforts should be made to complete the project within the fixed time limit. This project will be an important step towards taking forward the scientific culture of India. The location of the science city has also been chosen keeping in mind the convenience of students and public, he added.
According to officials, the science city will consist of various aspects including space science, robotics, science and technology heritage, climate change, energy, biotechnology, virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, space theatre, digital panorama on Himalayan biodiversity, simulator, aquarium, outdoor science park, theme park, biodome, butterfly park and facilities including a convention centre and exhibition hall. Local MLA SS Pundir, NCSM secretary Samrendra Kumar, UCOST director general Rajendra Dobhal, Rural Development and Migration Commission vice chairman SS Negi and others were also present on the occasion.
