Very light rain and snowfall was witnessed in the mountainous regions of the State on Wednesday. High altitude regions including Badrinath and Kedarnath along with other high Himalayan regions received light snowfall while the comparatively lower altitude mountainous regions including Joshimath experienced light rain. Coming after a gap of more than one month, the light rain and snowfall has intensified the cold and also brought some relief to the farmers in areas lacking irrigation facilities. Meanwhile, the State meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of dense fog likely to occur in some parts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts with cold day conditions likely to remain at a few places in Udham Singh Nagar district on Thursday. Ground frost is likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous regions. Apart from this, dry weather is likely to prevail in the districts of the State today. Moderate fog is likely to occur in some parts of plains in Pauri and Nainital districts during the night/morning hours.
The provisional State capital is forecast to witness a mainly clear sky today with mist / Shallow fog likely to occur during the morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 22 degrees Celsius and six degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
Meanwhile, the weather took a turn in the mountainous regions on Wednesday afternoon resulting in very light rain and snowfall. Badrinath, Auli and Kedarnath were covered in a thin blanket of snow. There was two millimetres rain in Badrinath, one millimetre in Mana and 0.5 millimetre each in Naugaon, Sonprayag and Ukhimath. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Wednesday were 22.2 degrees Celsius and 6.2 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 11.7 degrees Celsius ad 4.5 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 9.7 degrees Celsius and 1.6 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 14.2 degrees Celsius and 3.6 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
