In latest news from Uttarakhand, the Rajya Sabha member Naresh Bansal raised the issue of expansion of the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Rishikesh in the Upper House during the ongoing budget session of the Parliament. Arguing on this subject, he said that a large number of patients not just from Garhwal, Kumaon and Jaunsar regions of Uttarakhand but from western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh throng the premier facility for medical needs and the number of patients keeps increasing.
With pressure mounting, the AIIMS Rishikesh seems bursting at the seams, he said and added that to provide the expected level of healthcare, there is an immediate need of increasing the number of nursing staff.
While giving detailed account of how new facilities continued being added to the existing ones since 2004-the year it started operation- he said that the number of beds in the Indoor Patients Department has increased from 200 in 2013 to 960 at present.
