Multiple HRDA initiatives beautifying Haridwar

PNS | HARIDWAR

The holy city Haridwar despite hosting some of India’s largest religious events- attracting an average of six to seven crore devotees annually- remained neglected in the realm of beautification for long. Of course, roads and bridges were built over the years, but the beautification aspect was not taken care of as it ought to have been until Haridwar-Roorkee Development Authority (HRDA) launched a host of projects under the guidance of its vice-chairman Anshul Singh. Changes are now visible to the aesthetic delight of the pilgrims as well as those living here. These changeover is being rightly attributed to HRDA’S dedicated efforts blended with spirituality-tinged modern approach.  It has taken just one and half years for the development agency to reshape the city elevating it to the   global standards. All these initiatives are all the more praiseworthy as maximum facilities are being delivered with a limited budget.

  • Extensive Beautification Projects : Under Singh’s guidance, HRDA has launched hundreds of beautification projects visible across the city in the span of just 20 months.
  • Park Development : Around 50 parks have been developed and beautified across the city. Following Singh’s vision, 16 additional parks are under construction with features like trees, pathways, gym equipment, solar lights, RCC benches and vibrant paints.
  • Open-Air Gyms : Over 400 open-air gym equipment have been installed, benefiting thousands daily.
  • Children’s Play Areas : 250 swings have been set up for children.
  • Sustainability Measures : More than 300 solar lights, benches and chairs have been added.
  • Kanwar Pathway Renovation : A 2-km stretch of Kanwar Pathway has been revamped, serving both pilgrims and morning walkers.
  • Greenery Enhancement : Over 6,000 potted plants have been placed across the city, with regular maintenance to ensure greenery.
  • Flyover Enhancements : Railing installations, park development and small sports points under flyovers have been completed.
  • Haridwar as a Sports Destination :Haridwar is now recognised as a sports hub. A world-class stadium for day-night cricket matches has been completed, and a sports complex has been developed with facilities like badminton and lawn tennis courts. These initiatives will undoubtedly nurture young talents and bring national and international recognition to Haridwar.
