In latest news from Uttarakhand, to mark the National Space Day, the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) organised online programmes in which students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Suyalbari and Sainik School, Ghorakhal participated virtually and had discussions with space scientists.  Besides, ARIES was kept open for the common people as part of its outreach programme. This aside, video screening and poster exhibition on astronomy and space science are being hosted for the visitors between 2 pm and 4 pm. Scientist in- charge of outreach of Aries Virendra Yadav informed that the lander ‘Vikram’ of Chandrayaan 3 mission had successfully landed on the surface of the Moon on August 23 last year. “This success made India the fourth country to land on the surface of the Moon and the first country to land in the south polar region of the Moon. This remarkable achievement of ISRO further raised India’s stature in the field of space exploration. To commemorate this great feat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that August 23 would be celebrated as the National Space Day every year. So, this is the first   National Space Day and it is being celebrated by the science institutions across India through organising activities based on space science.”
