A 10-kilometre run on the theme of ‘Healthy Voter-Healthy Democacy’ was held at the Survey stadium on the directions of chief electoral officer BVRC Purushottam here on Sunday. The additional surveyor general Shyam Vir Singh was the chief guest at the event which saw the participation of more than a 1,000 people including those from the Indian Army, ITBP, Uttarakhand Police, Survey of India and secretariat athletics club along with general citizens. The chief guest along with the additional chief electoral officer Vijay Kumar Jogdande flagged off the participants in various categories at 7 AM.
The participants ran from the Survey stadium and passed through the New Cantt Road to reach reaching the Mahindra Ground before turning back to reach the starting point. The top three positions were won by Indian Army personnel in group A with Sachin, Gaurav Bhatt and Anil coming first, second the third respectively. Anant Rawat, Virendra Chowdhary and Kalam Singh came first, second and third respectively in group B while in the college students’ group C Niraj Kumar, Virendra Singh and Pamit Kumar won the first, second and third positions respectively.
In the women’s category group D, Tanushree Chauhan came first followed by Neha in the second position and Gudia in the third position. Speaking on the occasion, Jogdande said that the purpose of the run was the raise public awareness regarding voting related activities. This run was held as part of the events being held in view of the National Voters’ Day to be held on January 25. The deputy chief electoral officer and nodal officer of the event, Mukta Mishra thanked all the departments which cooperated in the event.
