Dehradun municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey inspected waterlogging-prone locations, drainage systems and the legacy waste site on Thursday directing officials to take immediate corrective measures.

Pandey visited Doon Hospital Chowk, Prince Chowk, Saharanpur Chowk, the ISBT area and the ISBT-Kargi Road stretch to review drainage and sanitation arrangements. During the inspection, garbage and poor sanitation were found at several spots on the ISBT-Kargi route. He directed that a warning be issued to the sanitation inspector and said that negligence in cleanliness would not be tolerated.

Pandey instructed the officials to coordinate with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Public Works Department (PWD) to remove slabs covering drains, clear silt, garbage and other obstructions and ensure effective cleaning of the drainage network to prevent waterlogging during monsoon. He also inspected the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) garbage transfer station where he expressed concern over faulty machinery and operational shortcomings. He directed that all non-functional machines be repaired immediately to ensure smooth operations and asked officials to send a letter to Dehradun Smart City Limited authorities regarding arrangements at the Kargi transfer station.

Later, he reviewed the ongoing cleaning of rivers and drains across the city and instructed officials to complete all pending work on a war footing before the monsoon intensifies.

At the Sahastradhara legacy waste site, Pandey expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work and warned that action would be taken against the company concerned if negligence in waste management continued. He said that the MCD remains on alert during the monsoon and has directed the officials to conduct regular inspections and ensure prompt action to safeguard residents from waterlogging and related problems.
