Municipal Corporation Employees’ Union functionaries sworn in

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The swearing-in ceremony of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun’s Employees’ Union was held on Friday at the civic body’s auditorium.  The mayor Saurabh Thapliyal administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected office bearers, including the president, vice -president and secretary. The team had been elected in the recently concluded union polls.

The newly elected president Satendra Kumar announced that the union would convene its first meeting immediately after the ceremony. He further said that the executive body would be expanded with around 21 additional members to strengthen institutional coordination and representation. Addressing employees, Kumar said that the union’s immediate priority is the resolution of long-pending service matters. These include allotment of residential land to staff, implementation of a life insurance policy pending since 2014, compassionate appointments for dependents of deceased employees, pending promotions, release of withheld allowances and ensuring salary disbursement by the 1st or 2nd of every month to maintain financial discipline.

He also raised concerns over outsourcing, alleging that about 317 outsourced employees have been inducted, many reportedly from outside the district.

“The union will soon meet government authorities to press for land allotment.  Plots earmarked for employees are being diverted. If no action is taken in a fortnight, the union may launch a stir,” he warned.
